Winner of the 2015 international Frederic Chopin piano competition at Varsovie, the young Korean prodigy, Seong-Jin Cho, now performs in the most prestigious concert venues worldwide. His first recording, dedicated to Chopin, proves, yet again, his affinity with the Polish composer, whose Four Ballades he will be performing. Cho will complete the programme with two of Beethoven’s most beautiful sonatas, n° 8 opus 13 – la Pathétique et n° 30, as well as two short pieces from Debussy.

« Un quatuor à cordes qui peut se métamorphoser en jazz-band », titrait le New York Times en 2009, après une apparition du Quatuor Ébène. A cette occasion, les musiciens jouèrent Haydn et Debussy avant d’improviser sur une musique de film. L’élan de l’internationalement reconnu Quatuor Ébène, son jeu charismatique et son ouverture aux formes nouvelles a su toucher un public jeune. Les oeuvres fondamentales du répertoire classique demeurent au premier plan de l’actualité des quatre musiciens. Ils offriront une interprétation simple et sincère de Beethoven et de Fauré. L’opus 121 de Fauré a été enregistré à la Ferme de Villefavard en 2008. En 2020, le Quatuor Ebène présentera l’intégrale des quatuors à cordes de Beethoven célébrant ainsi le 250ème anniversaire du compositeur.

On this occasion, the musicians played Haydn and Debussy before improvising on a film score, attracting new audiences by the momentum of its charismatic play and openness to new forms. The basic works of classical repertoire remain at the forefront of these internationally acclaimed four musicians who will be playing straightforward and heartfelt interpretations of both Fauré and Beethoven. Fauré’s Opus 121 was recorded at the Ferme de Villefavard in 2008 and in 2020, the Quatuor Ebène will record the complete Beethoven String Quartets, celebrating the 250th anniversary of the composer.
